Types of academic writing:

• Essays
• Reports
• Presentations
• Reflective pieces

Effective Assignment

• Shows the understanding of the learning outcomes through a range of arguments.
• You need to remain objective.
• It´s well structured with sentences and paragraphs that link logically, to make your writing flows.
• Uses several theories and examples to create a discussion of the topic.
• The style of the subject is correctly referenced.
• Uses formal language with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
• You should go through several drafts before the final product.
• Proofread your writing to find and correct typographical errors and mistakes..

The paragraph

The following list shows the main features of

paragraph and some advice to improve our paragraphs.

• Topic Sentence: Presents topic
• Body:  Presents supporting arguments for the topic sentence.
• You can order  different ideas by importance or chronology.
• One central idea in each paragraph, related to the topic sentence.
• Academic paragraphs are usually 4 or 5 sentences long.
• You should give details expressing important  reasons that support the main idea.
• Use linkers to the following sentence to approach the reader to the paragraph.
• Key terms must be used as many times as needed.
• Avoid repetition of common words.
• Closing sentence: may restate the topic sentence in a different way,

           or it should be a clear statement that the idea is finished.

• At the end of the paragraph, leave some kind of bridge to the next paragraph,

           or start the next paragraph with some idea connected to the previous paragraph.
