SPEECH ACTS. ENTRY #3
This video shows the differences between two Parts of Speech; Constative and Performative sentences.
Phrases that describe something as True or False are Constative, while sentences that denote an action are Performatives. When words are themselves actions, we can talk about Speech Acts. Some examples are; promising, ordering, apologising, etc.
Felicity conditions are the rules that performative verbs should meet in order to be acted. They should be Authoritative, Understood, and Clear to be Executed.
